Carnelian is one of the oldest stones in human history. The Egyptians called it the setting sun.

- The Stone: Carnelian gets its deep red color from iron oxide. This is the same element that colors the earth beneath your feet. Each bead is polished smooth and set with a vermeil gold logo cube at the center.
- History: Over 4,500 years ago, ancient craftsmen were already working with this stone. The Egyptians placed carved carnelian over the hearts of their dead to protect the soul on its journey. It was even found on King Tutankhamun's death mask. In ancient Rome, carnelian was the top choice for signet rings because hot wax does not stick to it. Romans pressed their rings into wax to stamp laws and orders. The famous leader Napoleon found a carnelian stone on a battlefield in Egypt and wore it for the rest of his life.

This is a solid sterling silver base coated in 3.5 microns of pure 24kt gold, making it about seven times thicker than standard gold plating. Because we use pure 24kt gold over silver instead of a thin layer over brass, the color is richer and highly durable. If it wears over time, it reveals solid silver beneath, developing character rather than looking cheap. Vermeil has been the standard for premium jewelry since 18th century France.
